AI Literacy in SMEs: The Overlooked White Space
sme-training/evaluation is one of the thinnest cells in the corpus — 4 papers, 2 in the last 12 months. SMEs are the overlooked white space in the AI-literacy debate: too small for enterprise programs, too exposed to ignore Art. 4.
1. What the corpus shows
- SME AI adoption (Delta State, N=400, D): training + leadership support + data readiness drive adoption outcomes.
- Technostress (JMTM 2025, C): training moderates technostress → adoption and well-being.
- MSME 1-day workshop (D): prompt formulation → copywriting → CTA with cumulative assessment.
2. The SME variant (assessment_spec, §10)
For SMEs: lightweight role inventory (3-5 roles instead of 50), simplified task matrix (2-3 tasks per role), compact assessment (15 min instead of 60), minimal documentation (readiness snapshot instead of audit package).
3. Three levers
- Role inventory (who uses AI for what?).
- Role-specific training (Guide 1 §4 playbook, compliance track).
- Objective baseline/exit assessment (AICOS or MAIL-CS, population-matched).
